Increased Ovulation Rate at the Ram-induced Ovulation and Its Commercial Application
نویسندگان
چکیده
There is evidence that the ovulation rate (number of ovulations per ewe ovulating) of successfully teased ewes was increased relative to that of their second ovulation or relative to spontaneously ovulating flock mates. The effect was observed in Merino, Prealpes and Ile-de-France breeds and may have been prevented in ewes primed with progestagen before the introduction of rams (Oldham and Cognie, unpublished). Progestagen priming ensures oestrus at the ram-induced ovulation, and ensures that the CL persist for a normal period (Hunter et al. 1971; Oldham et al. 1980). All of these factors will affect commercial application of teasing. The effects of teasing and progesterone on ovulation rate were tested in experiments on three breeds of ewe, and the possibility of commercial application of teasing to an intensive breeding system was tested in a fourth experiment. Progesterone was administered over 12 days by injections in Experiments 1 and 3 (10 mg/day) or by intravaginal sponges impregnated with fluorogestone acetate (FGA) in Experiments 2 and 4.

Can the "ram Effect", or the "ram Effect" plus Pmsg Be Used to Advance the Breeding Season of Southdown Ewes?
The 'ram effect' induced some seasonally anovular Southdown ewes (23%) to ovulate within 5 days of introducing Southdown rams on 10 December. Priming the ewes with medroxy progesterone acetate from intravaginal sponges for 12 days, immediately before the introduction of the rams, ensured that most of the ewes displayed oestrus at the ram-induced ovulation. The proportion of anovular ewes ovulat...

Background To evaluate the effect of metformin on ovulation and pregnancy rate in clomiphene citrate resistant women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). MaterialsAndMethods In this clinical trial each patient, regarding her previous resistance to Clomiphene, served as her own control. A total of 35 clomiphene citrate resistant PCOS patients, referring to Royan institute were studied. Clomiph...
متن کاملSynchronization of ewes during anestrus: influence of time of year and interval to onset of estrus on conception rate.
The effects of progestogen-gonadotropin treatment on estrous response, ovulation rate and lambing response of crossbred ewes were examined at two times during the anestrous season (May-June and July-August). Each ewe group was treated with progestogen pessaries for 16 days and injected with 750 IU pregnant mare serum gonadotropin (PMSG) on days 17 and 32 to induce two consecutive estrous period...
متن کاملProgesterone plus PMSG Priming in seasonally anovulatory lactating Sarda ewes exposed to the ram effect.
The aim of this trial was to evaluate the effectiveness (fertility and lambing) of priming with a single injection of progesterone plus PMSG in anovulatory lactating Sarda ewes subjected to the ram effect (RE) in spring. Thirty ewes (P4 group) were i.m. injected with 30 mg progesterone and 500 IU PMSG 36 h before ram introduction (d 0). This treatment was compared to a 12-day treatment with flu...
متن کاملRam-induced short luteal phases: effects of hysterectomy and cellular composition of the corpus luteum.
Two experiments were conducted on Préalpes ewes to test 2 complementary hypotheses which may explain the short lifespan of corpora lutea observed in some cases after ram-induced ovulation: i) the possible role of the uterus was tested by determining the effects of hysterectomy on the duration of luteal phases after the ram effect (RE); ii) the possible difference due to characteristics of folli...
